Aintree Racecourse is situated on the offside of the canal between bridges 7 and 9, with the Melling Road crossing bridge 8. The racecourse is world famous as the home of the British Grand National steeple chase. You can see several of the fences from the canal, and there is a footpath through the course between bridges 8 and 9, though you have to follow the fence along the N62 to find the opening near bridge 9.
Mature motor racing fans fans may also remember it as the home of the British F1 Grand Prix in the 1960s.
