Welcome Bridge Map Places to Visit Canal Topics Miscellaneous

There are many different species of tree along the banks and towpath of the canal. They provide shelter and food for many species of birds.

In the small selection of pictures here, I’ve concentrated on leaves, flowers and berries because you usually can’t really see the whole tree from the towpath..

Elder, whose berries are used for wine, is probably the most common tree to be found on this section, but you will also find most of the native species in abundance, including the very tall trees that heron like to nest in.
